TARGET DELEGATES

This course is aimed at inexperienced operatives who are required to undertake slinging and signalling for the movement of loads using lifting equipment. Candidates maybe new to the role or maybe those with limited experience and no formal training.

COURSE AIM AND CONTENTS

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with practical and theoretical knowledge in order for them to under take the role of the Slinger/Signaller. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to select the correct lifting accessories, attach them to loads safely and guide the load using the appropriate hand signals. Topics covered during this course include:

  1. Legislation: LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA.
  2. Codes of practice – BS7121.
  3. Roles and responsibilities of personnel involved with lifting operations.
  4. Crane appreciation crane types, capabilities and limitations.
  5. Lifting accessories
  6. Documentation and certification for lifting accessories.
  7. Sling Angles.
  8. Slinging techniques.
  9. Down rating of accessories.
  10. Communications.
  11. Establishing load weight and centre of gravity
  12. Proximity hazards
  13. Selecting lifting accessories.
  14. Attaching accessories to different loads
  15. Signalling for the lifting, transferring and positioning of loads
  16. Safe use of radios

CERTIFICATION

Successful candidates will be awarded a Trained Operator card endorsed with the category Slinger/Signaller (Lifting Operations).
