TARGET DELEGATES

This course is aimed at experienced operatives in order to refresh their knowledge of slinging and signalling duties for the movement of loads using lifting equipment.

COURSE AIM AND CONTENTS

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with practical and theoretical knowledge in order for them to under take the role of the Slinger/Signaller. Following successful completion of the course candidates will be able to select the correct lifting accessories, attach them to loads safely and guide the load using the appropriate hand signals. Topics covered during this course include:

  1. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the industry and their roles and responsibilities
  2. Conform to manufacturer’s requirements as per technical data, regulations and legislation
  3. Identify different types of lifting accessories and explain their functions
  4. Interpret and extract information on all relevant documentation
  5. Conduct all pre-use checks on non-specialist lifting accessories and identify non-serviceable items
  6. Explain the procedure for placing non-serviceable items out of service
  7. Identify and explain centres of gravity and calculate estimated weights of loads
  8. Confirm methods of communication with the machine operator
  9. Assess and confirm that the area contains suitable locations to undertake marshalling duties
  10. Set up an exclusion zone, identifying any overhead hazards
  11. Secure and detach various types of loads using the relevant lifting accessories and procedures
  12. Guide, control and accurately place loads, using different communication methods, ensuring the load’s balance, security and integrity
  13. Provide directions where the machine operator cannot observe the full path of the load
  14. Carry out all out of service and securing procedures.

CERTIFICATION

Successful candidates will be awarded a LEEA Slinger Certificate.
